Quantile Energy – Oxford / Remote Hybrid
Compensation: £32,000
Start Date: ASAP
Overview
Quantile Energy is a fast-growing, systematic short-term power trading start-up. We combine
quantitative research, automation, and real-time decision-making to trade across GB and European
power markets. Our mission is to build the most advanced short-term trading desk in the energy space
by optimising power flows, capturing cross-market value, and leveraging data to its fullest.
The Role
Graduates will be deeply involved in both research and live trading operations. You will help shape
the next generation of Quantile Energy’s trading systems. Core responsibilities include:
- Power market fundamentals and trading operations: Gain expertise in GB and European intraday, balancing, and ancillary markets, and understand how systematic strategies capture value across these products.
- Trading strategy development: Research, build, and backtest short-term power trading signals and models. Contribute ideas that transition from prototype to production trading.
- Deep market and data analysis: Work with high-frequency market data, renewable forecasts,
interconnector flows, system conditions, and liquidity patterns to extract insight and build
tools that directly support trading. - Execution research and operational support: Monitor markets, assess execution performance,
identify edge cases, and contribute to real-time decision-making on the desk. - Pathway to trading: As your understanding of the market and strategy frameworks grows, you
will take increasing responsibility for trade decisions, risk ownership, and strategy optimisation.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, physics,
engineering, computer science, data science, economics, or similar. - Strong programming ability in Python, particularly for data analysis, visualisation, modelling, and backtesting.
- Exposure to statistics, regressions, time-series analysis, optimisation, or machine learning.
- Interest in electricity markets, commodities, macro, or high-frequency trading environments.
- Ability to work with large datasets and transform raw data into usable features.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
- Ability to prioritise, work independently, and operate in a fast-paced environment.

We’re looking for someone who:
- Is excited to work collaboratively within a small, sharp, entrepreneurial trading team.
- Is curious, analytical, and comfortable exploring messy real-world datasets.
- Has strong problem-solving instincts and enjoys building elegant solutions under time
pressure. - Can manage multiple tasks and take ownership from idea to deployment.
- Has a genuine interest in algorithmic trading, energy markets, and quantitative research.
- Pays exceptional attention to detail and takes pride in writing clean, reliable code.
