Vacancy
Quant Developer (Position Filled)
Position Closed
This role is no longer available, but we welcome speculative applications from exceptional candidates.
Please email your CV to careers@quantileenergy.com and tell us how you could make an impact at Quantile Energy.
We’re looking for a Quant Developer to help design, build, and scale our algorithmic trading infrastructure for the European power markets.
You’ll work at the intersection of quantitative research, software engineering, and trading strategy production, building systems that take ideas from raw data through to live market deployment.
This is a hands-on, full-stack role focused on high performance, production-grade systems. If you’d rather build the machine that builds forecasts than spend your days manually fine-tuning hyperparameters we’d like to hear from you.
About Us
Quantile Energy is a data-driven energy trading company where every strategy is written as code. Our Quant Traders and Quant Developers work as one team—designing, coding, and deploying fully systematic strategies in energy markets. No black boxes, no hand-waving—just crisp analysis, robust infrastructure, and full accountability. Every decision is logged, every outcome analysed.
We aim to automate everything—from strategy execution to risk management and operational workflows—so our team can focus on what matters: finding new strategies, building better forecasts, and making smarter decisions.
How we work
We’re a remote-first company, with most of our team currently based in the UK. We trust people to manage their time and work autonomously—but we also care deeply about collaboration, communication, and delivering results. Flexibility is part of how we work, but so is accountability. We’re building a culture where people are empowered, connected, and focused on outcomes.
Not sure if you tick every box? That’s okay. If you’re excited by what we’re doing and ready to learn fast, we’d love to hear from you—even if you’re not a perfect match.
What You’ll Do
- Build reliable, production-grade Python systems for data ingestion, model training, backtesting, and live trading
- Provide operational support to ensure systems run smoothly and reliably in production.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines (e.g. DBT, DuckDB), infrastructure (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Terraform), and cloud-based deployment tools
- Collaborate with Quant Traders to turn research ideas into deployed strategies
- Design experiments and run structured tests to validate and improve performance
- Dig deep into models—understand not just how they work, but why
- Automate the messy, manual parts of data science: cleaning, aligning, validating, and enriching complex datasets
What You Might Bring
You don’t need to have every one of these—but here are some things that might help you succeed in the role:
- Proficiency in Python, with a focus on writing clear, maintainable, and tested code
- A background in a quantitative field such as Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science—or equivalent experience
- Experience working with real-world data pipelines, forecasting tools, or machine learning systems
- Familiarity with time series data and forecasting challenges
- Exposure to tools like scikit-learn, LightGBM, MLflow, Grafana, or modern workflow/orchestration systems (e.g. Airflow)
- The ability to debug tricky issues, handle imperfect data, and build systems that can withstand real-world complexity
- A collaborative working style—comfortable working closely with both traders and engineers, especially in a remote setup
- Curiosity about energy markets or algorithmic trading (prior domain experience not required)
Who This Role Might Suit
This role is well-suited to people from a range of technical and scientific backgrounds, including (but not limited to):
- Machine Learning Engineers who enjoy building robust, end-to-end systems
- Software Engineers with experience in data-heavy or model-driven systems
- Quantitative Developers or Researchers from finance
- Data Scientists with a strong engineering mindset
- Research Engineers or Applied Scientists looking to move closer to production systems and real-world outcomes
If you’ve worked in any of the above areas—and are excited by the idea of applying those skills to
energy markets and algorithmic trading—we’d love to hear from you.
Shared Success
Everyone on our team participates in our bonus share scheme, giving you a direct stake in the value you help create. We’re building something durable and long-term—and we want people who are invested in that journey with us.
