Quantile Energy – Oxford / Remote Hybrid
Compensation: Competitive
Start Date: ASAP
About Us
Quantile Energy is a quantitative energy trading firm specialising in short-term power markets.
We operate in fast-moving, highly volatile environments where market structure, participant behaviour, and system dynamics matter as much as price itself.
Our trading decisions are driven by data, research, and a deep understanding of how power markets actually function.
The Role
We are looking for a Power Market Analyst to join our trading team in a junior, research-focused role.
This position is ideal for someone who is deeply curious about power markets, enjoys working with data, and wants to build a strong foundation in short-term market dynamics.
This is not a trading role and does not carry PnL or risk ownership. Instead, you will focus on observing markets, identifying patterns, and feeding high-quality insight into the trading and strategy teams.
For the right person, this role provides a natural pathway into a future trading position.
Key Responsibilities
Short-Term Market Analysis
Analyse intraday, balancing, and ancillary service markets to understand price formation, volatility, and participant behaviour.
Trend Identification & Insight Generation
Identify recurring patterns, structural effects, and regime changes in short-term power markets using quantitative methods.
Market Monitoring & Reporting
Produce regular analysis, commentary, and dashboards summarising market behaviour and emerging themes for the trading team.
Data-Driven Research
Work with time-series market data (prices, volumes, system conditions, flows) to support trading decisions and strategy development.
New Market & Geography Research
Conduct detailed analysis of power markets where the firm is not yet active, including:
-
Market design and rules
-
Liquidity and volatility characteristics
-
Key drivers of price formation
-
Suitability for short-term trading strategies
Global Expansion Support
Contribute research that informs decisions around market entry, capital allocation, and strategic expansion.
Collaboration with Traders
Work closely with the trading team to ensure analysis is practical, relevant, and grounded in real market behaviour.
Requirements
We’re looking for candidates who have:
-
A degree in a quantitative subject (Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or similar).
-
Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with confidence working with large datasets.
-
Experience analysing time-series data, ideally related to power, commodities, or financial markets.
-
Strong interest in short-term power markets and market structure.
-
Ability to clearly communicate complex quantitative findings in a concise, intuitive way.
-
A high level of curiosity and a desire to deeply understand how markets work.
What We’re Looking For
You are someone who has:
-
A market-first mindset — fascinated by price behaviour, volatility, and system dynamics.
-
A preference for observing, questioning, and explaining markets rather than taking risk (for now).
-
Comfort working independently and forming your own views.
-
Ambition to grow into more responsibility over time, potentially moving into trading.
Why Join Us
-
Front-row seat to live short-term power markets.
-
Direct exposure to how professional traders think about risk and opportunity.
-
Opportunity to build deep market intuition before taking PnL responsibility.
-
Clear progression path into trading or advanced market research roles.
-
Competitive compensation and a strong learning environment.
Shared Success
Everyone on the team is eligible for our ESOP (Employee Share Option Plan), so you share in the long-term upside you help create.
We’re building for the long term and want people who are in it with us.
